Q Grader in Laos, Day 6: Bringing Evaluation Together

1 min read

The final day of this Q Grader course in Laos brought five days of learning into a complete evaluation exercise. Students worked with new coffees, moving through dosing, grinding, pouring, breaking the crust, cupping and recording their observations.

Using the Combined Form for descriptive and affective evaluation, the students recorded what they found in the cup and considered how it suited a particular purpose. A simulated export-client brief asked them to look for sweetness, natural acidity and nutty or chocolate profiles, without fermented or winey character. Comparing the results gave the group a practical calibration exercise.

The discussion also touched on values beyond the cup. After the practical work, students completed the online examination. We congratulated those who passed and arranged follow-up retakes for learners who needed more time. Practice and continued support remain part of that journey.
