Ultimate Academic Cup Tasters Championship 2024: Competitor Rules

1. Competition Format

The competition consists of triangular tests where competitors must identify the odd cup out of three. Two cups contain identical coffee, while one is different. Competitors are judged solely on their ability to distinguish the odd cup. 

For the First round Each competitor will compete twice, and the best result will be used to determine their standing in the competition.

1.1 Cup Handling and Identification
Competitors must taste at least 2 cups per set and push the odd cup across the dividing line.
 

1.2 Rounds

• Time Per Round: 6 minutes of competition time.

• First Round: 5 triangular tests. and the top 27(+3 International) will go through the second round.  

• Second Round: 8 triangular tests and the top 15(+3 International) will go through the third round.

• Third Round: 8 triangular tests. and top 6 will go through final round

• Final Round: 6 competitors, 8 triangular tests.

2. Equipment

• Competitors may use their own cupping spoon or the spoon provided by the organizer.

• Competitors may bring their own water to clean their palate.

• Competitors may bring their own split cup

3. Scoring and Tiebreakers

Competitors score based on correctly identified odd cups. In the event of a tie, the competitor with the shortest completion time wins.

4. Disqualification

Competitors may be disqualified for:

• Replacing a lifted cup without final selection.

• Not finishing within 6 minutes.

• Using unauthorized equipment or violating competition rules.

• Arriving late (check-in required 20 minutes before scheduled time).

5. Be on Time Rule

Competitors must arrive 20 minutes before their competition round.
