Q Grader in Laos, Day 4: Consistency Across Repeated Coffees
On Day 4 of our Q Grader course in Laos, four coffees were each presented three times in random order. The exercise asked students to return to the same coffee with consistent language, reasoning and scores.
The group used PanelCheck to review the descriptive profiling results. Looking at individual responses alongside the panel helped identify where an assessor was consistent and where particular attributes needed more practice. Those results gave the next discussion a clearer focus.
Triangulation followed, asking students to distinguish between coffees, and the day also included the first olfactory assessment attempt. Together, the exercises brought attention to repeatability, careful observation and the small differences in the cup.
Thank you to Abile, Khoon, Slurp and Pi-Cafe for making the learning space possible. The original Day 4 album below captures the students’ concentration and the work behind calibration.
