Florence Coffee Route, May 2016: Five Days of Training and 15 Reported SCAE Certifications
On 12 May 2016, Espresso Academy reported the start of a five-day Coffee Route in Florence covering barista skills, brewing, roasting and tasting. The post highlighted two coffee-plantation owners, from Guatemala and India, and described the Guatemalan participant as a Q Grader. It also noted a cupping and tasting day and a coffee-focused aperitivo with water-treatment specialist Fabio Feliziani of Brita.
A second Espresso Academy post, published on 26 May, reported 15 certifications after a recent five-day Coffee Route: eight Barista Foundation, two Barista Intermediate, two Roasting Foundation, two Sensory Foundation and one Green Intermediate. That report described two Sensory Foundation recipients as coffee farmers from Guatemala and India.
The matching five-day format and producer countries suggest the certification report may refer to the May 12 cohort, but neither post names the participants or explicitly confirms they are the same group. The certification counts are the institution’s report, not an independently checked certificate registry; the second course’s exact dates and individual records are not given. The source uses the historical SCAE name.
This story is based on Espresso Academy Firenze’s original diary and documents activity in Florence, Italy, not classes at our Bangkok campus. We’re proud to be part of the wider coffee community and continue learning alongside colleagues across the network.
