Roast, taste, compare and try again. In October 2022, competitors came to the Academy to learn the ROEST machine and practise for the Thailand National Roasting Championship 2023 edition.

Our recap thanked everyone for sharing information and experience, then cupping together to work on roast profiles. By the time of the update, the group had already roasted 200 batches of coffee.

The Academy made a cupping room available and offered further free machine practice. In a separate account shared by the school, Pobrak Coffee thanked the Academy for access to the machine and for cupping together to select a competition profile.

Natt also acknowledged Dutch Master Roasters Thailand’s sponsorship of the competition stage and practice. These accounts preserve the different contributions behind the preparation: equipment, space, tasting and time to practise.

When the finalist list was announced, the school congratulated the competitors and reflected on the importance of practice, roasting science, tasting and understanding water. A later invitation offered technical-volunteer opportunities for the national competition, alongside support for further learning.

Video resources supported the practice too. Natt shared a tutorial on using an existing roast profile as a reference for manual roasting, and the school linked an introduction to the ROEST touchscreen controls. Both original tutorials are available below.

We were glad to provide a place for competitors to prepare and learn from one another. Browse the original album and related accounts below.
