A post published by The Maestro Barista Challenge on 20 August 2017 announced Piyaphong Sihawong as Thailand’s Espresso Italiano Champion and said he was expected to represent Thailand in Italy that October. This is the announcement date; the sources reviewed do not establish the date the Thai selection itself took place.

In a reflection published on 11 September, Piyaphong attributed the title to The Maestro Barista Challenge 2017, organized by Aroma Group. The organizer’s recap, published on 18 September, identifies him as the winner of the Espresso Italiano Champion track and separately names the winner of the Thailand Indy Barista Championship. These were two distinct tracks, not one title.

Anaya Espresso Society followed Piyaphong’s progress in October. Its post on 21 October said he had reached the international final in Milan and anticipated the final the following day. A companion post offered encouragement; it does not claim a placing.

The International Institute of Coffee Tasters’ contemporary report names Piyaphong among four finalists. Its event notice dates the Milan semifinal and final to 21 and 22 October 2017. The Istituto Espresso Italiano’s Hall of Fame records Fabio Dotti as the international winner that year.

Together, these records document Piyaphong’s progression from the Thai selection to the international final. They do not show that he won the international title, and Anaya’s supportive posts do not establish a coaching, sponsorship, or judging role.
