Espresso Academy at the 2017 Italian Cup Tasting Semifinals
The 2017–2018 Italian Cup Tasting Championship brought Espresso Academy participants to two semifinals in November. In its 9 November 2017 news archive, Espresso Academy reported that trainer Helena Oliviero placed fourth in the first semifinal at Torrefazione Musetti in Piacenza the day before and qualified for the final.
A week later, the Academy team travelled to Rome for the second semifinal. The school’s recap says Robert Brinck and Simone Ferretti qualified for the final in Rimini. In the Academy’s account, Brinck placed third with seven cups in 6 minutes 40 seconds, while Ferretti placed fifth with six cups in 3 minutes 16 seconds. Simone Celli placed seventh, also with six cups, finishing six seconds outside the last qualifying position.
The Rome recap names Ilaria as part of the team and notes that a spilled cup disrupted her attempt. Espresso Academy later reported that Oliviero won the Italian final in January 2018; that final result remains a separate follow-up story. These semifinal placements and qualification details are attributed to the Academy’s reports; an organizer results sheet was not reviewed.
