CVA for Cuppers in Bangkok: Building Aroma Memory on Day 1
A familiar aroma can be surprisingly difficult to describe. That was the starting point for Day 1 of CVA for Cuppers in Bangkok, where students practised recognising smells and connecting them with words.
The activities focused on aroma recognition, sensory memory and comparison. Students worked on distinguishing aromas in coffee and communicating what they perceived more clearly. Each attempt to remember and describe a smell helped build a reference for the next comparison.
The day placed perception before scoring. Before an evaluation can be useful to someone else, the cupper needs to notice what is in front of them and find a clear way to describe it.
Smell, remember, compare and describe: the original album follows those first steps of the class. Thank you to everyone who joined the exercises and shared their observations at Espresso Academic in Bangkok.
